hey, wacky dawg, say somethin' FUNNY!

dude you would not believe how locked in i am right now. no one has ever been this locked in before. don't worry about the fact i only slept 3 hours last night i fuckin got this ok?
i've got ruby and jekyll and notepad++. i spent hours today watching jekyll tutorials and reading documentation. then i had to go grocery shopping, but i sketched out some new site layout ideas on my way home. then i got home and sketched some more before going back to tutorials and documentation and experimenting. i'm probably gonna go back to that (if i don't completely crash after i finish writing this LOL.)
i started off trying to move to coding in notepad++ instead of just directly in the neocities editor. i was already wanting to do that but i was having some wifi issues today that made viewing my edits by making them live just so tedious. so far i like it! i'm probably gonna look into more customization options or something at some point if those exist, but i'm happy with it and with the plugins i've been using. EXCEPT. there's one plugin i installed that was allegedly supposed to be able to access my css file and use it. but it only seems to work if the css file is in the same folder as the page's html file? and i just did not want to work around that.
wait. ok. shut up. because i just realized i could've just made a new folder with a copy of my css and then edited the html files in that folder and just... moved them when i was done?
whatever it doesn't matter because i'm glad it happened this way. after an hour of nonstop fruitless googling, i talked to a friend of a friend who already mentioned wanting to talk to me about neocities and now i'm learning jekyll. i've gotten really excited about web development and coding so many times but i don't think i've ever been this excited about it before
one thing that's crazy about deciding to learn all this stuff now is just like. so, i keep finding incredibly helpful old tutorials about coding, and then i go check to see what else the person who made them got up to. and MULTIPLE TIMES they're doing something with genAI + coding. infuriating and frankly baffling. like. girl... why are you doing that. you already know how to code.
i guess as an online artist i shouldn't be all that surprised. so many talented artists have started using genAI. ugh. i can't get started on the LLM/genAI thing right now or this blog post is gonna get WAY too long. i WILL be writing about it later, though.

ok now it's time to think about what to do next here. there's a few things that i want to do, but most of the ways people do them use javascript! i'm not against using js eventually, but right now i'm pretty focused on wrapping my head around html and especially learning how to use css. i've done a lot with html over the years, mostly playing with tumblr themes, but some other stuff, too. but i hardly ever touched the css stuff on any of it.
it's actually interesting, i think being really into using carrd for a while has kinda helped me wrap my head around css. css element classes (is that even what they're called?) are kinda like the styles you can save for carrd elements. sort of. like not really but kind of.
anyways. i've been working on a gallery page for a few days. i'm pretty happy with how it's turning out! but oh man the load times are so badddd. i could probably do more to make the images smaller so they load faster but tbh i don't reallyyyy want to do that. so i'm thinking i'll split it up into multiple pages. which is gonna take some work. and i need to finish the code for the gallery before i can clone it to other pages. i have the gallery itself pretty much done, but it needs navigation! i tried to make a header for navigation and it's okayyy? but i don't know, something about the way it looks is just not what i'm going for. i think i might try a sidebar instead.
though tbh! i think i might hold off on working on the gallery and make a webcrafting resources page next. i keep finding so many cool things while i'm trying to figure out how to make something work, and i'd love to just have somewhere to put them all...
here's my current thoughts for this site! mostly putting it here so i can come back and look at it because my memory is so bad LOL

blog page is done!! exciting. i haven't had an actual blog in years. i used to blog back on microsoft live of all things. then tumblr of course but that's a microblog.
i'm probably gonna be blogging a lot about the process of setting this site up to start with! but i'm mostly treating this like a classic blog. aka: talking about whatever the hell i want.
