oh man making that "explore the web" page was so much harder than i expected! i didn't have to do anything new with the coding, but figuring out how to organize all the stuff i wanted to include was tough. i like the categories i came up with, though :3
speaking of the code, though, i really don't know how happy i am with what i came up with >_<;;. flexboxes always seem so fun in theory for organizing things! but i've yet to find a way to use them that i like... i think i'll probably end up coming up with something new using grid boxes instead. i have to decide if i'm going to do that first or if i'm going to work on my galleries next. the gallery idea was such a big part of what i wanted to do when i started really working on this site, but i still haven't done it!! i've got a prototype gallery i threw together before i started using jekyll but i haven't touched moving the code to mess with in jekyll. that's another one i tried using flexboxes for and just did not like, actually.
there's a lot about the site i'm still not perfectly happy with. lots of janky stuff and things that don't work quite how i want them. sometimes it's a little disheartening, but dude i'm doing all this myself! that's so awesome and fun. i'm enjoying the challenge too much to give up.
oh!! i just remembered that my last blog post ended off with me looking into figuring out how to push the site from jekyll to neocities easily! omg that was wild. so i wanted to use the neocities Command Line Interface, right? i already have ruby for jekyll so i installed the gem and... it didn't work. like the installation just could not complete. i spent hours the first day trying to troubleshoot it and then a few days later spent nearly a full day trying to figure wtf was going on. i've still got no clue what it was, i got it working by installing a more recent version of ruby. my BEST guess is maybe i unchecked some box that was important on that first installation? because during all my troubleshooting i tried to mess with the MSYS2-Devkit stuff and i couldn't get any of that to install either. super weird. i'm so glad i got it working though bc the neocities CLI is sooo nice. no manual uploading... backing up old versions before pushing an update is so easy... i <3 you neocities CLI.

i've been in such a creative rut lately. been taking it easy and playing video games and watching tv and reading instead. creativity and consumption go hand-in-hand to me. sometimes i just need a break from making things and to take some time to take new things in. i finally watched pluribus and played through subnautica for the first time! enjoyed both SO much. one of the things i've been toying with is the idea of writing game reviews on my blog, so i might do that for subnautica at some point soon, we'll see! i had a lot of fun with it though and might honestly go back for another playthrough and to get that one last achievement i didn't get. pluribus is crazyyyy good. bravo vince, etc etc.
